Berikut ini contoh penggunaannya dalam bentuk kalimat:

1.  Aux. verb to be    (are, am, is )  ( were, was, was )
a. (+) They are teachers
(-)  They are not teachers     are not = aren’t (bisa disingkat seperti ini)
(?)  Are they teachers?
b. (+) He is tall
(-)  He is not tall     is not = isn’t
(?)  Is he tall?

2.  Aux. verb to do    ( do, does )  ( did )
a. (+) You study English
(-)  You do not study English        do not = don’t
(?)  Do you study English?
b. (+) He plays a guitar
(-)  He does not play a guitar        does not = doesn’t
(?)  Does he play a guitar?

3.  Aux. verb to have ( have, has )  ( had )
a. (+) They have learned English Grammar
(-)  They have not learned English Grammar    have not = haven’t
(?)  Have they learned English Grammar?
b. (+) She has gone
(-)  She has not gone     has not = hasn’t
(?)  Has she gone?

4.  Modals auxiliary verbs
a. (+) He can speak English well
(-)  He cannot speak English well     cannot = can’t
(?)  Can he speak English well?
b. (+) We will go to a movie
(-)  We will not go to a movie     will not = won’t
(?)  will we go to a movie?
c. (+) You must be able to speak English
(-)  You must not be able to speak English
(?)  Must you be able to speak English?
